MYLES LINDSAY FAMILY
Workout to Conquer Cancer 2024
Held by Myles Lindsay Family
60 supporters
This May, our family will be participating in our 4th year of Workout to Conquer Cancer.
We have all agreed on a big target for this year's fundraising and plan to raise $179,219.00! This will bring our four year total to $600,000.00! Team Miles for Myles has had amazing support over the past three years which has allowed our family and friends to accomplish so much, but kids facing cancer need more. Myles would expect us to not give up.
Myles was diagnosed in March 2021 with Diffuse Infiltrating Gastric Carcinoma and passed away on June 1, 2022.
For 2 years Myles endured the unimaginable. It started with vomiting several times a day for months and loosing 20lbs before he was diagnosed. Once he was diagnosed he went through surgeries, chemo, radiation and so much more. Through all of this he stayed positive, kept his sense of humour and continued on without any complaints. We were always in awe of him and how courageously he fought cancer.
We miss Myles every minute of every day and one way to remember him is to help raise funds for pediatric oncology research and treatments. For the month of May we will be working out and fundraising to honour him.
Miles for Myles is raising funds this year for one of the BC Cancer Foundation's key priorities, pediatric cancer research led by Dr. Poul Sorensen and his colleagues at BC Cancer.
Dr. Sorensen's lab is currently focused on two urgent priorities within childhood cancer research:
- Targeting high-risk pediatric cancers with new immunotherapy approaches.
- Understanding and targeting stress adaptive pathways in high-risk pediatric cancers, and how these pathways lead to aggressive metastatic disease.
What is very exciting about both these research streams is that they could lead to available treatment for pediatric cancer patients in as little as one to one and a half years! This is significant because up until now children have had very little access to immunotherapy and have had no treatment for aggressive metastatic disease.
This is what each of us has committed to do every day for the month of May:
Matthew: running or rucking 10K
Cole: cycling 5k and 100 sit ups
Nathan: rugby 4 to 5 times a week plus weights in the gym
Lana: weight training, cycling, swimming, hiking or pilates
Scott: minimum 1 hour of cycling or training
Hau: walking or cycling with Jessica
And on May 4, many will participate in the 3rd Annual Buckets for Myles Basketball Tournament at Rockridge Secondary. A donation to Miles for Myles is required for entry. Everyone is welcome to come and cheer the players on. 11:30-2pm, 5350 Headland Dr, West Vancouver, BC V7W 3H2. For more information click HERE
Also, on Saturday May 11, F45 Ambleside Beach District will be hosting a Workout Fundraiser for Miles for Myles from 8:30am - noon. 1439 Clyde Ave, West Vancouver, B.C. V7T 1E9. To participate please go to the F45 Ambleside page HERE
So, as we get ready to sweat our way through May, please show your support by donating today in honour of Myles and for the kids and adults you know and love who have battled or are currently in Cancer treatment. Every dollar counts, and a minimum of $10's receives a tax receipt.
Thank you so much for supporting us and donating in Myles' honour.
