Workout to Conquer Cancer brings together thousands of participants and hundreds of teams every May for one powerful purpose: moving towards a world free from cancer.
Since launching in 2017, this inclusive month-long fundraising event has transformed everyday movement into extraordinary impact for cancer research and care across B.C. What began as a grassroots fundraiser has grown into a community-driven movement.
For 31 days, every step, stretch and stride brings us closer to a future free from cancer, and every participant is part of something bigger. Whether you dance, lift, walk or play, your movement drives progress.
No matter your pace or style, every move matters.
The BC Cancer Foundation is the fundraising partner of the BC Cancer.
As the largest philanthropic funder of cancer research and care in the province, our donors fuel hope for the 80,000 British Columbians facing cancer every year.
Every dollar you raise stays right here in B.C. to drive innovative breakthroughs in cancer research and care. With your support, families facing cancer have accelerated access to life-saving treatment and care closer to home.
For 10 years, our Workout to Conquer Cancer community has raised over $7 million for the BC Cancer Foundation, simply by committing to daily movement.
These funds have driven transformational progress in research and care at BC Cancer.
Here are some impact highlights:
Clinical trials: BC Cancer operates one of the busiest clinical trials networks in Canada with over 380 active trials, ensuring patients across the province have access to the most cutting-edge treatment options available.
BC Cancer – Vancouver Technology Transformation: This fundraising campaign is equipping BC Cancer with a suite of state-of-the-art diagnostic, imaging and radiation treatment technologies, including an innovative Contrast Enhanced Mammography unit and two first-in-Canada technologies (the Next Generation PET/CT and the Photon Counting CT scanner).
The Patient Relief Fund: Donors and fundraisers help fuel this fund, which reduces financial barriers for patients and families facing cancer across B.C. The fund ensures patients can access various basic and emergency resources, including grocery gift cards, prescription medication, transportation, critical dental procedures and nutrition beverages.
New BC Cancer centres: Four new centres are set to open by 2030 in Surrey, Burnaby, Nanaimo and Kamloops. These centres will bring care closer to home for patients and families across B.C and increase BC Cancer’s capacity to deliver life-saving care.
“Workout to Conquer is a way to keep [my nephew] Myles close, to make him proud, to make his terrible journey with cancer not be completely in vain. It’s a way to honour and cherish all of our memories of Myles and get out there and do something to make a difference for other families.”
-Susan Richardson
“I saw an opportunity to make a difference while doing something I love — working out and dancing. Little did I know that it would be a great platform to bring people together and connect through movement, which I truly believe is medicine.”
-Dalerina D’Silva
"Having battled testicular cancer twice, maintaining my health — not just physical, but mental — is of great importance. Workout to Conquer Cancer is a great reminder to move and motivate others to do the same."
- Chris Ho
"My superhero team at BC Cancer are the BIG reason why I am here today, and will always be the biggest reason why I will always return so that they can continue to do the magical work they do every day."
- Rosalyn Salanguit
