This May, we join together to work out to conquer cancer in honour of our beautiful friend, Tamara O'Brien. She touched so many lives with her charm and humor, her passion, and her genuine positive outlook on life.
The month of May is not only the month for the workout to conquer cancer, but it is also melanoma awareness month. We all know Tamaras passion for educating those around her and shedding light on the challenges she faced. She often shared her endless gratitude for the support and overall care that she received from the BC Cancer Foundation throughout her journey. I encourage you to read the words she wrote or hear the words she spoke to fully understand what the BC Cancer Foundation meant to Tam. (quote and video linked below)
This month is about celebrating Tamara and continuing to carry on her passion and absolute joy for life! Its our turn to take the baton and spread awareness and raise money for patient care and cancer research so that we can help those that are going through a similar journey as Tamara.
As we head into our very own Hot Girl/Guy Summers, we want to get out and get active every day in the month of May to make sure our bodies are Hot Tam Summer ready. So really, there is no real reason to not join our Hot Tam Summer team.
So, slap on that SPF 50 (if you plan to workout outside 6 feet away from other people) and lets make our world champion proud!
We love you Tamara!!
Tamaras words
At 22, I am living with stage 4 metastatic melanoma. I was diagnosed just over a year ago and have been doing my best to live in spite of cancer, and in spite of the uncertainty cancer brings into my life.
Living with an advanced cancer diagnosis is never easy, especially being so young. After being sent to BC Cancer and receiving services there since 2017, I've had nothing but amazing nurses and staff there to support me when things have been extremely hard to handle. From counseling services, to art therapy to some of the best doctor's in the country, I am eternally grateful for what BC Cancer has done for me and my family. I am so excited to be able to participate and give back to BC Cancer during the month of May! With your support, we will make a significant contribution to the world-class research conducted by the clinicians and scientists at BC Cancer. Their work is providing exciting new evidence that is changing the way cancer is prevented, detected and treated.
I always try to emphasize to people that you aren't a cancer patient until one day you are. So, as I lace up my runners, fill up my water bottle and get ready to sweat my way through May, please show your support by making a donation today.
Lots of Love,
Tam
