I'm taking part in Workout to Conquer Cancer in honour of my dad, whose love for movement and staying active was one of the many ways he inspired those around him. Since losing him, keeping my body moving has become a way to stay connected to that part of himto carry his message forward. This challenge is a way for me to keep that momentum going, to encourage others to move for those who cant, and to support my family in remembering him together. Every step, ride, or stretch is a tributeto him, to health, and to hope.

Peter Mark Avery was born on September 9, 1965 in Kamloops, British Columbia, and passed away with his family by his side on November 10, 2024 Following a cancer diagnosis in 2021, Mark underwent si rounds of chemotherapy but remained active, continuing to enjoy his favourite pastimes - golfing, travelling, and working in the yard - often with his loyal dog Rosie by his side.

Mark was a devoted family man, a beloved husband to Lisa, and a loving father to Julia, Joel, and Laura. He took great pride in supporting and guiding his children.

After graduating from North Surrey Senior Secondary in 1983, Mark pursued his passion for teaching at Simon Fraser University, earning his degree in 1990. He went on to dedicate 34 years of his life to education, inspiring countless students as both a teacher and coach at Guilford Park Secondary School and Surrey Academy of Innovative Learning.

Mark was known for his athleticism. In his youth, he excelled in soccer, baseball, and basketball. His love for sports continued into adulthood, where he remained an avid soccer player and golfer. His enthusiasm, competitive spirit, and love for the game left a lasting impression on all those who played beside him.

Mark will be missed deeply and leaves behind a honourable legacy with his family, friends, colleagues, and students. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his mother Morah and his siblings Bill, Kelly, and Terri and is predeceased by his father Bill Sr.
