My friend, Josh Lombardi, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive sarcoma, DSRCT, in November 2023.

Sarcomas are not as well understood as other cancers. We have a long way to go to improve outcomes for patients like Josh.

For the month of May, I will be MOVING with TEAM JOSH to raise funds for DSRCT (desmoplastic round cell tumour) research and care.

This challenge is more than exercise. It's about coming together to go beyond limits in making an impact for the 80,000 British Columbians facing cancer each year.

In cancer research, there are three main sources of funding: government, industry, and private donations. Government funding involves numerous steps and bureaucratic hoops, while industry funding, though often generous, can be unpredictable. Private donations, however, are the most impactful because they go to work immediately.

For rare cancers like the one Josh is fighting, government and industry funding are scarce, as the majority goes to more common cancers. Private donations are the only way to make significant progress in combating rarer forms of cancer. Sarcomas, like Josh's, disproportionately affect young people, making this battle even more challenging, both emotionally and financially.

Josh's goal is to be a statistical outlier in this fight against his disease, and your support is helping him inch closer to that goal. They say it takes a village, and you are that village.

As I get ready to sweat through May, please consider showing your support by donating to my page today. All funds donated to my page will be directly supporting Dr. Torsten Nielsen's lab at the Jack Bell Research Centre. Dr. Nielsen collaborates with many other scientists and is researching DSRCT here in BC.

Here is a list of the activities I will be participating in with Team Josh!

1. Sunday June 8 Valley GranFondo! 120k Bike Ride

2. Sunday May 4 BMO 1/2 Marathon

3. Sunday, May 11th 10km Run Granville Island

4. Saturday May 17 10km Sea Wall Run - Hosted by Sophie Horricks

5. Saturday May 24 DEKA Strong Competition

Thank you for your support!

Anne
