This May, I will be moving every single day to raise funds for life-saving research and care at BC Cancer. I will move for the people who cannot and for every survivor who now feels strong - like my mother.
My mother is an example of a survivor who rose above and fought her stage 4 uterine cancer valiently. She has been in remission for ten years and a living testament to the treatments that saved her life at BC Cancer.
This year, I am driven to support the foundation with another vested interest. My son has been diagnosed with a brain tumour; and although benign, it is a rare condition that presently is inoperable and affecting his well-being in many ways. We have seen first-hand the amazing care that my son has been receiving by BC Cancer during chemotherapy and his most recent radiation treatment course.
The Workout to Conquer Cancer challenge has invoked a very deep personal stake this time around because no one should ever have to see their child suffer. The last eight months have been especially gruelling for my son, but he has faced every adversity with immense bravery. My husband and I are so very proud of him. Our son deserves to live the full life that lies ahead full of promise and opportunities; the research and development needed to create new technologies and drugs will help ensure this.
This challenge is more than exercise it's about coming together and making a difference in any way we can.
So, I urge you all to give with compassion and purpose. To know that every dollar you donate will help someone live the life they were meant to live. That "someone" might even be an individual in your close circle one day.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
With love,
A Mother.
