On November 11, 2023, I found myself in a life-altering car accident that (literally) left me teetering on the edge of life and death.
The impact was devastating as in an instant, I faced the terrifying possibility of physical injuries and permanent disability.
After I was hit, my car spun out and hit a pole near a median strip, and thus my car flipped.
After rolling a few times, my car finally landed on the sunroof and I was hanging upside-down, suspended by my seatbelt.
My car was balancing with close proximity to a ditch - if my car landed further back, I wouldn't have been able to escape via the broken sunroof (you can see the wooden blocks the firefighters used to wedge my car to make sure it didn't fall in).
How I left the incident without any broken bones, internal organ injuries, or a concussion is utterly baffling.
Ever since, I've embarked on my challenging journey of recovery.
I have hypermobility and this often gets overlooked by doctors and medical specialists as I seem and move "normal".
But I can confirm I am far from what I used to be, and this has been frustrating.
It's also presenting to be a challenge for my physiotherapists as we work through my treatment plans.
This experience not only reshaped my body, but my mind and has made me think about those who face even greater challenges. I am determined to support those who may not have the same opportunities I have.
I value health in all forms, and I push through my physical therapy sessions to relearn basic movements and gradually reclaim my independence.
This May, I will be moving every single day to raise funds for life-saving research and care at BC Cancer.
I will move for the people who cannot engage in physical activity due to their circumstances, and for every survivor who now feels strong.
This challenge is more than exercise it's about coming together to go beyond limits in making an impact for the 80,000 British Columbians facing cancer each year.
So, as I get ready to sweat my way through May, please show your support by donating today.
Join me on this journey of hope, healing, and empowerment. Together, we can help others rise above their challenges and embrace the transformative power of movement.
Thank you for reading!
