This May my brother and I will be participating in Workout to Conquer Cancer to get moving and support BC Cancer patients!

One in two British Columbians are affected by cancer. That is why we have committed to move and raise funds for patients, survivors and those we've lost. This challenge is more than exercise, it's about a community who believe we can make an impact, even from our homes.

Five years ago, our father was diagnosed with an aggressive form of lymphoma.

This diagnosis started his crusade against this horrific disease. He endured many intense medical treatments and chemotherapy sessions which had, at first, led to the remission of his lymphoma. As life started to normalize again, our father was optimistic that the worst was behind him. However, to our unfortunate surprise, his worse fears became a reality. His cancer had returned again. This time, it meant that my father would need a stem cell transplant our battle was not over.

As his kids, this was the hardest news to face and left us battling our own vast array of emotions. Our father prepared to start yet another round of chemotherapy alongside his transplant protocol. I felt compelled to offer my knowledge and support as a physician after all, I had been trained for this in school and had experienced this situation many times among my patients. However, as time and treatments went on, it became apparent to me that, above all, what my dad needed most from me at this time was my support as his daughter.

Together as a family we faced a grueling battle. Many nights of tears would soon turn into smiling days as we quickly learned that the only way to get through this was to lean on each other and stay positive.

We are proud to say that our father is now 5 years post-transplant and doing well! He embodies our definition of resilience. We dedicate this challenge to our dad, and everyone else facing this battle, dont lose hope! As we always say, Laughter is the best medicine.

As weI get ready to sweat my way through May for every patient who cannot, please show your support by joining our team, making a donation, or simply cheering us along!

Together, we are stronger than cancer.

Sincerely, Sarojini & Kailash
