Hi! I'm Luan!
I'm participating in Workout to Conquer Cancer this May because it's important to me to feel like I'm making a positive impact with a cause that hits so close to home.
My mom, Gail, was diagnosed with lymphoma in early 2022. She went in determined and came out the other side - she achieved complete response by August of the same year! Though her fight with cancer was not easy, I remember her saying that if she needed to do chemo every other year just to feel normal again, she would do it. That really stuck with me.
In December 2023, we found out Mom's cancer was back. This type of lymphoma is chronic and required more intense treatments. It's been a rollercoaster of a year for our whole family - but mostly Mom. The side-effects from treatment have been very intense, but Mom still showed her resilience. Through this whole fight, I've felt assured that my mother is strong, she will always advocate for herself, my dad visited her every day in the hospital, and two of my sisters who live close by were keen to help wherever they could.
It's been challenging to live 4 hours away from my mom as she's gone through this, but I know she's in good hands.
So this month, I'm doing what I can and raising funds to conquer cancer!! I'm expecting my first baby in July, so although my workouts might be light, I'm going to do my best to stay active through the whole month of May!
