This May I am once again participating in Workout to Conquer Cancer to get moving and support BC Cancer patients! Last May I was deep into training for my first ever half marathon, which I successfully completed in October 2023! This time around, things look a little bit different! At the time of writing, I am sneaking up on six months pregnant and my movement looks a little different! Running is a little (lot) slower, and climbing is getting harder. But I am still determined to get my movement in, however that looks!

As always, my biggest motivation for participating in this fundraiser in my dad, who is currently kicking some major multiple myeloma @$$. He has always been my rock and a pillar of strength not only to me but our family and friends, and him being diagnosed with cancer shows that it doesn't matter how healthy or active you are, cancer doesn't discriminate. What his journey has shown me is being healthy and strong allows you to fight cancer with a leg-up and that is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Growing up I used to love watching my dad cross the finish line at all the marathons he ran, so it was an amazing moment to have him follow me around the course by bike with my husband, and be there as I crossed the finished line of my half marathon (see banner photos).

Besides my dad, my grandfather was a major influence in my life. He sadly succumbed to his Stage IV lung cancer back in 2013. His cancer was missed due to a multitude of confounding factors but shows the importance of early detecting and proper screening. I wish this was the end of the cancer story in my family, but I have also lost my maternal grandmother to bone cancer and have had two cousins fight and win their battles against Hodgkins Lymphoma.

One in two British Columbians are impacted by cancer. That's why I've committed to move and raise funds for patients, survivors, and those we've lost. This challenge is more than exercise, it's about joining a community who know that together we can make an impact for those we love and have loved.

So, as I get ready to sweat my way through May, please show your support by making a donation today.

Thank you!
