Workout to Conquer Cancer 2025

This May, I will be moving with my coworkers at the Hereditary Cancer Program (HCP) every single day to raise funds for life-saving research and care at BC Cancer. I've recently had my fourth cancer-related surgery so am restricted to walking this month.
I'll be walking with my pup, Mister J (Jay), who is a 3 year old corgi-black lab mix and was adopted while I was still going through my own cancer treatment. He's been my nurse dog through 3 surgeries, 25 radiation treatments, Capecitabine, and Olaparib; he missed my 5.5 months of dose-dense chemotherapy and mastectomy. He's been part of several cancer events over the last 3 years and is very much my emotional comfort, source of happiness, and motivation to keep pushing through.
I am moving for myself, my family, and my friends who have been diagnosed with cancer. I was diagnosed with TNBC and had a pathogenic BRCA1 mutation found in 2021 when I was 33 years old, I lost my dad to cancer when he was 53 years old, and have had countless friends diagnosed, all under the age of 50.
I have seen the difference research can make with several new treatments being implemented in the 4 short years since my diagnosis, and have witnessed clinical trials saving and extending the lives of my friends. Research has contributed to increasing the overall 5-year survival for all cancers from <55% in the 1970s to >85% in the 2010s.
Research undeniably saves lives.
