Hello Friends and Family:
Our young cousin, Myles Lindsay is our guiding light as we join the Workout to Conquer Cancer for the second year in a row.
Fifteen-year-old Myles was diagnosed with Diffuse Infiltrating Gastric Carcinoma in March 2021 and for the last year, has bravely undergone treatment at BC Children's Hospital and the BC Cancer Agency. When possible, he's been at school, working at the marina gas bar or hanging with his beloved dog Stella and his three brothers. He has been an inspiration to his friends and family as he has endured tough treatments and their side effects with courage, resilience and good humour. In the coming weeks, he will have a partial gastrectomy to help alleviate some of his symptoms and allow him to eat.
Now Myles is inspiring us all to get active for cancer research. Please help us reach his goal of raising $100,000 through the Miles for Myles team. The funds will go to one of the BC Cancer Foundation's key research priorities, genomics and the Personalized Onco-Genomics Program, in collaboration with BC Children's Hospital.
Here's what our family is doing to support Myles' goal in the Workout to Conquer Cancer.
From North Vancouver and Galiano
Nick: Heavy lifting of paving stones, pulling broom and hauling debris on Galiano.
Gilian: Twice weekly yoga and workout sessions punctuated with broom pulling and beach/forest walks.
Ben: 100 km of mountain biking a week plus 42.2 km running in the Vancouver Marathon on May 1.
From Sweden
Ella: 30 minutes of daily ACL rehab and cycling around Gothenburg (with donations going to the Swedish Cancer Society)
From Prince Rupert
Maggie: 10 km of running a week plus daily walks with her canine companion, George.
Please donate what you can for Myles, for his exceptional team at BC Children's Hospital and the BC Cancer Agency, and for all the people you know and love who have battled cancer. Every $$ counts!
Many thanks, big hugs and a wag,
Nick, Gilian, Ella, Maggie, Ben and George
